Took place on 5th March 2010 from 09:00 till 16:00

Event details

This STEM task involves pupils in a range of activities which support work-related learning and encourages enterprising ideas. Pupils work in teams throughout the day, given the tasks of…
  • Inventing a new product
  • Planning a marketing strategy
  • Making a prototype from materials provided, which they ‘buy’, within a budget, from an ‘engineering store’
  • Presenting their enterprising ideas to their classmates

The teams utilise the given materials, including electric components, batteries and motors, to design an initial prototype,, demonstrative of the idea they are marketing. The prototype should have at least one movingpart, be it mechanical or electrical, and the groups will present their creations to the rest of the class at the end of the workshop. The pupils are assigned an individual role within their teams, so that team working skills can develop.  Good communication and cooperation between all team members is required to produce a solution to a brief. This STEM Day encourages pupils to be open-minded to each other, and use their imaginations to develop a prototypical device of their creation - there are no restrictions on what can be made! Teachers are needed to take an active role in this day to help encourage and motivate their pupils.
