Report

Following the success of the Thames Water Challenge back in October, on January 13th 2010, another group of pupils studying on the 14 – 19 Engineering Diploma got to visit LSBU and take part in the Challenge.

This time budding engineers from St. Saviour’s & St. Olave’s school and Southwark College got to test out the ‘Reservoir to Tap’ experiment, which involves pupils planning, designing, building and testing a model water distribution network.

The event is a partnership between LSBU, the LEP, Thames Water and Lambeth Council. Again, the challenge was held in the thermofluids labs at LSBU, so pupils got the chance to see what it’s like to be a student, studying engineering. Staff from the Faculty of Engineering, Science and the Built Environment at LSBU, Peter Robinson and Issa Chaer demonstrated some engineering experiments during the lunch break and student ambassadors and volunteers from Thames Water were on hand throughout the day to offer support and advice throughout the event.

At the end of the day pupils got to test their water networks and were awarded certificates to say that attended the event.
