E-Mentoring
The Brightside UniAID (previously know as the Brightside Trust) ran a dedicated and e-mentoring service to support students in thier work. Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) Ambassadors with an engineering background were invited to join the London Engineering Project and The Brightside UniAID pilot e-mentoring service, 'Live Journals', which aimed to increase the awareness of Year 9-13 school students (ages 13-18) informing them about where a career in engineering can take them and what university life is like.
Many mentees are the first in their family to consider Higher Education and Live Journals mentors are a valuable source of information for these exceptional students.
The beauty of e-mentoring, compared to face-to-face mentoring, is that you can do it whenever and wherever you want - all you need is internet access.
The LEP no longer offers e-mentoring however if you are interested in being an e-mentor or e-mentoring in general you can contact BrightsideUniAID directly.
The evaluation of this approach can be found at; LEP Evaluation Report December 2009 – Pages 15-18 and LEP Evaluation Report Appendices - Appendix D.
