Ambassadors
The LEP works with primary and secondary schools. We run a wide range of events that promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) to pupils, including: in-school STEM days; activities at London South Bank University (LSBU); engineering clubs and residential courses.
LEP Ambassadors assist us at most of our events and are fundamental to the work we do. LEP Ambassadors can get involved in a number of ways:
- Act as a role model
- Share personal experiences
- Support students with their work
- Provide career presentations
- Assist students with LEP activities
- Act as an expert on an LEP challenge
- Provide information on and promote careers in engineering
The LEP has two types of Ambassadors:
- Student Ambassadors are students of the Faculty of Engineering, Science and Built Environment at LSBU. They are trained by the LEP to help us organise and run events. You can find more details on how we train these student ambassadors in the document called Training student ambassadors in diversity to increase impact. They are also oulined in the LEP Evaluation Report December 2009 on Page 12 & 13, and LEP Evaluation Report Appendices - Appendix F.
- STEM Ambassadors are volunteers from a variety of STEM professions. The LEP STEM Ambassadors programme is part of a national scheme run by STEMNET. Please see the following two case studies:
The evaluation of this approach can be found at LEP Evaluation Report December 2009 – Page 14 and LEP Evaluation Report Appendices - Appendix F.
